Trifasciata Rainbowfish

Tricolor Golden Barb

Quick Overview

This tricolor barb lives in a structured group of at least ten individuals. When kept in too small a group, it may become restless and occasionally bother other species, as it cannot properly channel its energy among its own kind.

Very active and constantly on the move, it explores all areas of the tank and will readily investigate the substrate and decorations. Its high activity level requires a spacious aquarium with plenty of swimming length and open areas.

This fish can do well in a community tank, provided suitable tank mates are chosen. Avoid slow-moving or long-finned species, as they may become stressed or nipped. It is best kept with similarly sized, active, and hardy fish.

A well-decorated aquarium with plants, roots, and shaded areas will help reduce stress and encourage natural behavior. A darker substrate can also enhance its coloration and contribute to a calmer demeanor.

Although fairly hardy, this barb is an energetic fish that consumes a significant amount of oxygen. Efficient filtration, good water circulation, and regular water changes are strongly recommended to maintain optimal water quality.
