Quick Overview
The Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is a true aquarium favorite, admired for its vibrant colors, beautiful fins, and remarkable variety of patterns and forms. Native to South America and the Caribbean, this peaceful and active fish is relatively easy to care for, making it an excellent choice for community aquariums. Males are particularly colorful and often display large, flowing fins in a wide range of colors and patterns, while females are generally larger and less brightly colored. Guppies thrive in clean, well-filtered water that is typically neutral to slightly alkaline, with plenty of open swimming space. As livebearers, they reproduce readily in the aquarium and can quickly establish a thriving population when kept in suitable conditions.
