Quick Overview
Myleus sp. Lamax III is a large South American freshwater fish appreciated for its elegant body shape and schooling behavior. Active and powerful, it requires a spacious aquarium with plenty of open swimming areas and should always be kept in groups.
Generally peaceful, it can be kept with other species provided certain conditions are met. Due to its adult size (up to 30 cm / 12 inches) and active nature, it should only be housed with robust fish of similar size. It fits well in a large Amazonian-style aquarium alongside other calm species such as Myleus, Metynnis (silver dollars), South American cichlids like Severum or Geophagus, and large bottom-dwelling fish.
It is not suitable for community tanks with small fish, as they may be stressed or even eaten. Aggressive, highly territorial, slow, or delicate species should also be avoided.
With a primarily herbivorous diet, this species may nibble or damage aquatic plants. Hardy plants or alternative decorations are recommended.
Still relatively rare in the hobby, Myleus sp. Lamax III is a sought-after species, ideal for experienced aquarists with large aquariums.
